Amnesty International, This is a complaint regarding the abuse of suspects and application or enforcement of the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, specifically as it applies to the case of Casey Anthony, a Florida resident who has been charged with homicide in the disappearance and death of her daughter. I'm sure you are aware of some of the malicious activity that has been occurring in this matter. Regardless of anyone's guilt or innocence, I believe there are federal and international laws that are intended to prevent the sort of abuses that are taking place almost on a daily basis in the Anthony case. Point #1: Malicious prosecution by media with the cooperation of the Florida legal system. This is more than just prosecution, this is an old fashioned tar and feathering with a little stick poking and stone throwing included. CNN/HLN and several other networks have attempted to frame every action of the accused as evidence of guilt, or as evidence of some psychological defect, or as of evidence of character defect. Far from reporting simple news items, CNN/HLN and their employees have engaged in character assassination in an attempt to sway the state and the public to seek the execution of someone who has not even been tried yet. Nancy Grace, a CNN/HLN employee, has for months, and nightly, been engaging in malicious and personal attacks on Casey Anthony in what I believe is an attempt to antagonize and coerce a confession or suicide. Nancy Grace has reported that Casey Anthony saw her malicious reports on television from her jail cell and was severely agitated. Nancy Grace made a conscious decision to increase her harassment of the suspect as result of that agitation. At the very least, it should be evident that this "news" anchor is attempting to use her national media position to make it impossible for the defendant to receive a fair trial. As such, I believe the defendants civil and human rights are being violated. As you may know, Nancy Grace is currently facing civil charges as the result of her actions in a similar case where she attempted to emotionally "beat" a confession out of someone she alone had named as a suspect. The "suspect" in that case committed suicide after receiving a severe emotional "beating" from Ms. Grace. Such actions are not permitted if the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment is to be taken seriously. Point #2: unlawful public release of personal and copyrighted materials to news media. Many personal images and videos belonging to Casey Anthony, and protected under international and US copyrights as a result of having been published in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, have been freely redistributed by the state and others to "news" programs who I believe are airing these works without permission from, or payment of royalties to, the defendant Casey Anthony. Again, the defendant has not yet been convicted. CNN/HLN reports that they took certain videos from youtube.com and aired them without the defendant's permission. The story included details of how "someone" stole these images and videos from Casey Anthony's personal myspace.com web space and uploaded them to youtube.com, misrepresenting them as their own copyrighted works, or at least misrepresenting that they had permission from the copyright holder to do so. The lawful rights of the copyright holder have been totally ignored by everyone! Point #3: Double Jeopardy Nancy Grace, a former prosecutor and now a CNN/HLN employee, is prosecuting this case in the media using tactics learned and information gained as a result of her past employment as a prosecutor. Since Casey Anthony is being prosecuted by the State of Florida, and by CNN/HLN under the direction of Nancy Grace, a former state prosecutor, this constitutes double jeopardy for the defendant. Nancy Grace is apparently still a member of the bar association and as such should be upholding the highest legal standards. As such, I believe this is a further violation of many laws, FCC rulings, and the defendants human and civil rights. It may be only for a court to decide if the defendant can ever be tried fairly in a real court of law, however these nightly abuses by a high profile television network and a former prosecutor, a legal agent of the courts, should not be allowed to continue. Please advise what actions if any you intend to take in this matter. Thank You, Name: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Address: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Signed: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Dated: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
